AT THE MIC
A few child stars from film and TV who later turned up in rock and pop groups:
Colleen Fitzpatrick – as a teenage actress, she starred with Rikki Lake in John Waters' Hairspray. She fronted grunge-pop band Eve's Plum and later sang solo as Vitamin C.
Phil Collins – as a boy, Collins played the Artful Dodger in a theatre version of Oliver! and had a small part in the Beatles' flick A Hard Day's Night. Much later, he moved to the front and became singer as well as drummer for Genesis.
Steve Marriott - as a child actor, played many parts, including a stint as another Artful Dodger; later became known as lead singer with The Small Faces.
Patsy Kensit - as a sprog, appeared in many adverts and drama roles including The Great Gatsby with Robert Redford. Later sang with 80s group Eighth Wonder before resuming her acting career.
Tina Yothers – from the age of 9, played Jennifer Keaton in popular US sitcom Family Ties; later fronted the rock band Jaded.
Brinsley Forde – starred in The Double Deckers, a late 60s adventure series for kids, about a gang of London kids. Later singer and guitarist with pop-reggae group Aswad. Sadly, though it turns up now and then as a piece of trivia, Tiger, the youngest of the gang, was not played by the young Corrine Drewery (singer with Swing Out Sister).
Jenny Lewis – as a child actress, she appeared in many films and TV shows, including The Golden Girls and Roseanne. She now fronts highly-rated Californian band Rilo Kiley.
